Jackson Hole International Championship Turkey Shoot 2012

Rimfire Competition – November 23, 2012 3PM to 5PM

Benchrest Rifle – Speed Rifle

Event Entrance fee donation: Your choice of $10 or $100 or $1000.  (All donations support the JHSSF!)

 Is money tight? If money is keeping you & your kiddo from participating, don’t let it!  Just show up and put a folded $1 into the donations can, we want your smile more than your money.

Don’t have a gun or any experience?  Want to use OUR guns, Ammo, eye protection & hearing protection?  No problem, show up and donate what you can, we suggest $25 or $250 for each match but $1 also works just fine.

Matches:

  • Precision Rifle – Shooters may use custom or stock .22 LR rifles and will shoot for bullseye, “Other” and groups at 50 yards.  Recommended ammo count 50+ rounds.
  • Speed Rifle – Shooters may use any stock or custom .22 LR rifle including semi-auto and will shoot at targets placed from 25 yards to 100 yards in a timed event.  Recommended ammo count 100+ rounds.

    Rules for Precision Match

    A. Rifle
    .22 Rimfire – Chambered for Short, Long, or Long Rifle.

    B. Ammunition
    Ammunition must be a lead projectile in .22 Rimfire short, long, or long rifle calibers and available for purchase at usual retail or mail order outlets.

    C. Wind Flags
    Wind flags can be utilized. Shooters must place wind flags in position before match begins. Wind flags cannot be moved or taken down until match is over. If a flag is in a shooter’s line of sight, the Match Director or referee will lay the flag on the ground. This must be done before commence fire.

    D. Sand Bags
    Front rest is allowed. Rear rest must be a sandbag. Sandbags must be made of leather or cloth. The front and rear rests will not be connected to each other, the bench or the gun. Only sandbags can touch sides and bottom of stock except that a thin plastic film or cloth may be attached to the stock where it touches the bag only for the purpose of reducing friction between the stock and sand bag. When rifle is raised straight up, the front and/or rear rest must not raise up with rifle. If the front and/or rear rest raise up with rifle, the front and/or rear rest must be weighed with rifle to determine eligibility. Rear rifle rest must be on top of the bench but not attached to the bench. Sand bag and rest rules do not apply to the Unlimited Class.

    E. Scopes
    Shooters may use whatever power scope they choose.

    F. Targets
    Match coordinator will supply targets.

    G. Scoring
    Scoring will be done by a bona fide member of Team 5959.

    H. Course of Fire
    Course of fire will begin with between 15 and 25 targets at 50 yards. These targets will have a scoring area of less than 2” diameter and will have sighter target(s) available. Shooters will shoot one shot at each target.

    Second phase is a group of 5 shots, also at 50 yards.

    Rules for Speed Match

    A. Rifle
    .22 Rimfire – Chambered for Short, Long, or Long Rifle. Semi-auto recommended.

    B. Ammunition
    Ammunition must be a lead projectile in .22 Rimfire short, long, or long rifle calibers and available for purchase at usual retail or mail order outlets.

    C. Scopes
    Shooters may use whatever sighting system they choose or none at all. Laser, red-dot, telescopic, aperture sights, post and notch or any other is allowed

    D. Targets
    Match coordinator will supply targets. Targets will be metal targets between 4 inches in diameter and 12 inches in diameter. Targets will be placed at distances between 25 yards and 100 yards.

    E. Scoring
    Scoring will be done by a bona fide person(s) designated by JHSE.

    F. Course of Fire
    Course of fire is one shot each on between 3 and 8 targets placed at distances between 25 yards and 100 yards.

    Precision Round 1
    Each shooter and may shoot as many sighters as they want and will shoot 9 recorded shots at 50 yards. Possible score of 90.

    Precision Round 2
    Each shooter may shoot as many sighters as they want. Each Shooter will shoot a 5 shot group. Best group receives 10 points, 2nd place group receives 5 points, 3rd place group 4 points, 4th place group 3 points and 5th place group 2 points.

    More “fun” rounds if time allows, possibly to include:

    (If above is completed by 4:30 PM) – Precision Round 3
    Each shooter will select a card from the shuffled deck. Each shooter may shoot as many sighters as they want. Each shooter may shoot one shot at the suit on their card on the target. Shooter gets 10 points for a hit that does not break the edge and 5 points for a hit that breaks the edge.

    (If above is completed by 4:30 PM) – Precision Round 4 – Optional Gamble!
    Each shooter may shoot 3 sighters only, then shoot one shot at the empty 9mm case at 25 yards. If the case is shot completely off, shooter has 10 points added to their score, if the case remains on the toothpick; 10 points are deducted from their score, it the bullet touches the target frame, 20 additional points are deducted.

    (If above is completed by 4:30 PM) – Precision Round 5 – Optional Gamble!
    Each shooter may fire up to 3 sighters only, and then will shoot 5 shots at 50 yards at an angled paper target framed by a clay pigeon. If all 5 bullets land on the target, 5 points will be added. If the clay pigeon is broken or only 4 shots hit the paper target; 20 points are deducted from shooter.

    Speed round 1
    From a seated position at a bench with a front rest, each shooter may shoot up to 3 practice sets, and will then shoot a set of 5 recorded shots at targets placed between 25 and 100 yards. Shooter may choose not to use a front rest.
    Each shooter will shoot a total of 5 sets, with each time recorded for a total possible 25 points.

    Speed round 2
    After shooting the above course of fire, shooter will shoot the course in reverse. Each shooter will shoot a total of 5 sets, with each time recorded for a total possible 25 points.

    o Only 5 shots are allowed in each set.
    o In the case of a jam or bad firing pin strike, the set may be re-shot.
    o In the event of simply running out of ammunition, that set will be calculated as the shooter’s longest recorded time + 3 seconds.
    o If all shots in a set hit the targets; that set counts as 5 points. If there are any misses, that set counts for NO points.

    (If above is completed by 4:30 PM) Speed round 3
    Set up 4 cowboy targets at 25 or 50 yards with volunteer’s help. Shooter will shoot a Laurence Welk sweep. Progressively place one more round on each target.” Ten shots on four plates, in the following order: 1-2-2-3-3-3-4-4-4-4. Add 1 second for each miss.

    (If above is completed by 4:30 PM) Speed round 4
    Using the 4 cowboy targets from round 3 the shooter will double tap the 1st target, then the second, then 1st then third and so on. The order of the 12 shots will be 1-1-2-2-1-1-3-3-1-1-4-4. Add 1 second for each miss.
